After the long dark winter months the snowdrops appear just as the boats are readied for our first customers.  The weekend was beautifully sunny and the skies were blue, a perfect start to the season at White Horse Boats. Daffodils and crocuses  have already been spotted along the canal and the warm sun will bring the blooms out for all to enjoy.  Boating early in the season is more peaceful than midsummer, with the boats being toasty inside with the central heating and plenty of hot water. If you fancy an early escape to the countryside and be at one with nature, albeit from the comfort of your own narrowboat, then now is a good time to book with competitive prices much lower than at peak season. Take a boat for a long weekend or even a week and cruise along the Kennet and Avon Canal, travelling east from Devizes Wharf towards the beautiful town of Hungerford. Swing bridges along the first stretch, but no lock until you reach Wootton Rivers about 20 miles along your route. If you’ve never navigated the canal before this is an ideal starting location; don’t forget full training is given for novices and old hands. There are many excellent pubs to discover along the way with marvellous food and local ales to enjoy. Come and watch the landscape change through along Pewsey Vale as we travel towards summer on the canal.
