Hurray! We are delighted to say that yesterday we had the long awaited news that the canals will soon reopen and we can begin cruising again.

We are waiting for confirmation for the exact dates, but as soon as allowed we will be back on the water. It looks like the dayboat will be allowed out soonest; a perfect isolated day trip to enjoy the canal and countryside.

Being afloat aboard a boat is a lovely way to isolate away from home. You can easily keep your distance and still be on holiday. Really get away from everything and just relax.

Bookings will be taken as soon as we know when we are allowed to cruise, but it looks like the end of May for the Dayboat and July for holiday hire.

Here is the latest update from the Canal & River Trust.

Government have issued clarification this morning, 13 May.

We’ve now had the opportunity to do this and are able to set out our approach to opening our navigation to boating in England. Please remember that social distancing continues to be maintained, with only members of your household able to go aboard your boat until further notice.

From today, Weds 13 May 2020

You may undertake short boating trips only from today – avoiding use of locks and any staff-operated structures if possible – providing, as per current government guidance, you do not stay away from home overnight and return to your mooring.

From Monday, 1 June:

On this date, we anticipate that our navigations will re-open in full, subject to some exceptions*, and you will be able to undertake longer journeys.

According to current guidance, those who do not liveaboard should not stay overnight. We will seek further clarification as to whether overnight stays will be permissible once full navigation resumes.

*Please bear in mind that it will take time to get the entire network fully operational, and booking for some passages and services will be required. Some sections may be closed for a further period. Our website will be updated with the details closer to the time.

I will of course keep the website up to date and bookings will reopen as soon as possible.

Our boats are thoroughly cleaned after every hire, and we can perform handover and training whilst maintaining the 2m distance (forgive us for not greeting you with a friendly handshake, just our usual smiles). Once aboard, you’re on your way to relax and enjoy the beauty and freedom of the relaxed life of the canal.
