There are many great pubs along our stretch of the Kennet and Avon Canal, and a narrowboat is a great way to enjoy them all with the advantage that your accommodation is moored just a short walk away! A good meal, a few pints and no driving to get back you your cosy bed. Yes, it’s the perfect holiday.

Life on and around the canal moves at a slow pace, but the pubs are always synonymous with canal life. They may undergo renovations and get new management from time to time, however there is always something lovely and quintessentially English about sitting in the beer garden watching the boats on the canal.

Whilst cruising late last year with my sister and her family we fancied a visit but did not think to check opening times and so found the pub closed. Opps. So as part of your planning you may like to check this pub list which contains links to all the pubs’ websites. Look them up and check to see when they are serving.

There are many great pubs along the canal and they vary hugely with what they offer. From fine dining to massive portions. Pie & Pint night is very popular with the locals in Wotton Rivers, whilst David highly recommends the Bistro at Pewsey Wharf for its generous portions. I’ve enjoyed many meals at the Bridge Inn at Horton, and am especially fond of the Honeystreet Mill Cafe.

So whatever you are planning on your holiday, there are many places to stop and enjoy good food along the way!
