Narrowboat Dayhire
The perfect way to spend a day!
If you have always fancied a go on a narrowboat, then self-drive dayhire on the rural Kennet & Avon Canal is the perfect way to spend a day. Full training is provided upon your arrival and you and your friends/family can all learn to steer a narrowboat. Even the children can have a go (properly supervised by a responsible adult of course!) Life jackets are available for everyone, but we insist the children wear them. Our dayboats take up to 10 and dogs are welcome at no extra cost (maximum of 4 dogs).
Departing Devizes Wharf on the Kennet & Avon Canal from 9-9.30am, an 8hr hire including the first 1/2hr tuition, returning from 5:00- 5.30pm (available early March to late October). Click here to see the Dayhire Route.
35ft traditional steel narrowboat with super silenced engine
‘Semi trad’ stern (which means that the rear deck is enclosed to offer socialising space in safety)
2 ring gas hob, with pots/pans and teapot/cafetière
Crockery, cutlery and glassware for 10 people

N.B. a £200 refundable CASH security deposit is required on the day - cards are not accepted for the security deposit

Our Day Hire Boats
We have three day hire boats in our fleet, Moonlighting, Moongazing and Moonlighting.
Training provided at the start of the day so you can have a marvellous introduction to cruising the waterways. Onboard there is a kitchenette, comfy seating and toilet. At the bow there is open seating for you to watch the scenery as you meander along the canal. Room for 10 people and 4 dogs, this little boat makes a perfect family day out or cruise with friends for a day to remember.

Day Hire Cruise Route
Our self-drive narrowboat day hire on the Kennet and Avon (K&A) Canal, available March to end October, offers an easterly, lock-free, cruising route from Devizes Wharf in Wiltshire. You’ll cruise through stunning scenery as you travel along the Vale of Pewsey as far as either All Cannings, turning just before Allington swing bridge - approx. 3hrs in each direction without rushing. We do not allow our dayboats east of All Cannings, nor west down the Caen Hill Locks.
Moonlighting, Moondancing and Moongazing are available for hire every day from the beginning of March to end of October.

Vouchers
A day out on our boats makes a wonderful present. If you would like to give this as a gift, but do not know which day would suit your recipient, then you can purchase a voucher so they can choose any day available.
The price of a dayhire varies across the season and weekend are usually more than week days. We sell vouchers at £200, but will refund any difference, or ask for the additional amount when the date/price is chosen.
If you would like to purchase a trip on a dayboat as a gift then please email us with your telephone number and we will call you to arrange this. A voucher with a booking number will be sent to you so that you can print it to be included in your card. Instructions included as to how to choose a date, and then confirmation of the dayhire will be emailed.
Alternatively, if you know which date you want we advise you to book so that you are guaranteed this day. We can still email you a voucher for you to print and give.
